COMUNICATO STAMPA → La Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea inaugura la Mostra Antonietta Raphaël. Attraverso lo specchio, curata da Giorgia Calò e Alessandra Troncone e promossa in collaborazione con l’Istituto Lituano di Cultura presso l’Ambasciata di Lituania in Italia.“Questa mostra restituisce i frammenti di un corpus di opere molto articolato e di una vita intensa, piena, operosa e devota all’arte. Racconta di un’artista che ha detto la verità, in modo olimpico, animale senza illusioni, con ferocia e con determinazione, quella che ha speso nelle lotte dei suoi incubi (sempre definiti sogni) e quella che ha profuso per plasmare la materia, dura come quella della pietra e del palissandro o tenera come l’argilla o la pasta di colore sulla tela” Cristiana Collu, Direttrice della Galleria Nazionale. La figura di Antonietta Raphaël (Kaunas 1895 – Roma 1975), l’Artista di origini lituane esponente di spicco della Scuola romana, viene raccontata attraverso Dipinti, Sculture e Opere su carta, accompagnati da Documenti, Fotografie di famiglia, Lettere e Pagine dei suoi diari. Completa l’Esposizione una selezione di Opere di Mario Mafai – compagno di una vita – unitamente a un Video documentario inedito realizzato per la Mostra. Attraverso lo specchio allude all’attitudine di Raphaël a trasformare la pratica artistica in uno strumento di indagine sul proprio mondo interiore, ed evoca dimensioni oniriche e immaginifiche in cui la figura femminile è protagonista. Lo specchio, inteso come autorappresentazione, sdoppiamento, soglia da attraversare, diventa quindi il filo conduttore di un percorso che esplora la ricca produzione dell’Artista, con una serie di nuclei tematici individuati dalle Curatrici. L’Autoritratto, pratica che segna tutta la produzione di Raphaël e mette al centro il tema dell’identità esplorata dall’Artista attraverso il racconto di sé. Numerosi autoritratti la vedono all’opera con gli strumenti da lavoro, come Autoritratto con tuta blu degli anni Quaranta che introduce lo sguardo “alternativo” dell’Artista sul suo lavoro e sulla Scultura. Femminilità e maternità, concetti-chiave ricorrenti nell’Opera dell’Artista, che più volte nei suoi scritti accomuna la donna a Dio per la capacità di “creare qualcosa dal nulla”, e che ritornano in chiave più strettamente autobiografica nei Ritratti dedicati alle figlie Miriam, Simona e Giulia, le Tre sorelle a cui è dedicata la Scultura omonima del 1936, parte della Collezione della Galleria Nazionale. Le origini ebraiche, altra grande presenza nel lavoro dell’Artista, tema di numerose Opere che offrono nuovi spunti sulla rappresentazione femminile in particolare attraverso le figure di Giuditta e Tamar: eroine bibliche, donne indipendenti e volitive, in grado di declinare grazia e bellezza in forza e combattimento e di sovvertire con le loro azioni un contesto dominato da logiche patriarcali. Infine, uno sguardo all’entourage dell’Artista. Una sezione della Mostra esplora i rapporti di Antonietta Raphaël con figure e personalità cruciali della sua epoca: gli Artisti Giacomo Manzù, Renato Guttuso, Katy Castellucci, Helenita Olivares, ma anche Mecenati e Collezionisti che hanno sostenuto la sua pratica. La narrazione della Mostra si intreccia così con la struttura aperta e permeabile di Time is Out of Joint, stabilendo connessioni con Opere e Artisti della Collezione della Galleria Nazionale e suggerendo nuove letture dell’Opera di Antonietta Raphaël. L’Inaugurazione della Mostra il 17 Novembre 2021 sarà l’occasione per rendere omaggio a Giulia Mafai, scomparsa lo scorso 25 Settembre, che ha fortemente voluto questa Mostra e la cui supervisione scientifica è stata preziosa durante tutte le fasi di sviluppo del Progetto. L’Evento di presentazione della Mostra Antonietta Raphaël. Attraverso lo specchio, alle ore 17.30, vedrà la partecipazione della Direttrice Cristiana Collu, dell’Ambasciatore di Lituania in Italia Ričardas Šlepavičius, delle Curatrici Giorgia Calò e Alessandra Troncone, degli Storici dell’Arte Giuseppe Appella, Giovanna Coltelli, Giedrė Jankevičiūtė, Federica Pirani e di Ariel Mafai Giorgi. La Mostra gode del Patrocinio del Primo Ministro di Lituania Ingrida Šimonytė.
