COMUNICATO STAMPA → Conferenza di Marco Bussagli, Storico dell’Arte, Docente di prima fascia dell’Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma presenta I denti di Michelangelo Storia di un’anomalia iconografica e qualche novità presso la Sala Conferenze Pigorini Museo delle Civiltà Venerdì 12 Novembre 2021 ore 16.30. Il libro I denti di Michelangelo. Un caso iconografico (Medusa, 2014) affronta un argomento che non solo non è mai stato indagato, ma neppure considerato nella pur sterminata storiografia di Michelangelo. La realtà del tema non deve essere dimostrata perché è certo che il grande artista abbia rappresentato moltissimi personaggi caratterizzati dalla presenza di un incisivo centrale nella chiostra dentaria; chiara anomalia anatomica dal momento che ciascuno di noi ha due incisivi a metà dell’arcata buccale.
Di questo fatto non si è mai accorto nessuno studioso, sebbene si tratti di opere notissime: dalla Sibilla Delfica al Giona della Sistina, fino alla Furia degli Uffizi, alle figure demoniache del Giudizio Universale e all’aguzzino che alza la croce nella Crocefissione di San Paolo nella Cappella Paolina. Questo vuol dire che Michelangelo, con totale coerenza simbolica ha impiegato questa anomalia anatomica per oltre quarant’anni. Il testo indaga le ragioni anatomiche, iconografiche, artistiche, filosofiche e religiose poste alla base delle scelte del grande Artista, le quali si possono riassumere nella volontà di rappresentare la bruttezza del male, sia pure declinata secondo sfumature diverse. Così, il quinto incisivo, va a caratterizzare quelle figure che appartengono al mondo precedente la rivelazione di Cristo, ma allude pure alla violenza, alla bestialità, nonché alla natura lussuriosa. Michelangelo crea, così, un vero linguaggio simbolico personale che affonda però le radici, tanto in una precisa tradizione iconografica, quanto in una serie di testi filosofici, religiosi e catechetici che indagano il rapporto del cristiano (e dell’uomo in generale) con il peccato e il male.

Laureato in Storia dell’Arte, è Professore di prima fascia presso l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma dove insegna Anatomia Artistica. Ha insegnato Storia dell’Arte e Iconologia presso le Università di Macerata, “Sapienza” di Roma, la L.U.M.S.A. di Palermo e di Roma. Borsista al Warburg and Courtauld Institute di Londra nel 1989, ha collaborato con l’Istituto dell’Enciclopedia Italiana (1985-2009). Nel 2000, con Mario D’Onofrio ha curato la mostra Le ali di Dio (Bari e Mont-Saint-Michel). È stato Direttore scientifico ed autore de «I Grandi Temi della Pittura» per la De Agostini (60 volumi). Ha curato, con Claudio Strinati, la Mostra Il ‘400 a Roma (2008, Museo del Corso). Nel 2011, con Maria Grazia Bernardini, ha curato Il Rinascimento a Roma nel segno di Michelangelo e Raffaello (Fondazione Roma). Ha poi curato le tre più recenti mostre su Maurits Cornelis Escher (Roma, Chiostro del Bramante) in Italia (quella di Reggio Emilia con Piergiorgio Odifreddi). Scrive per Avvenire e Art e Dossier, è stato consulente per la RAI (Videosapere), ha collaborato con SAT2000. Ha al suo attivo oltre 200 pubblicazioni tra libri, articoli scientifici, voci enciclopediche e contributi di alta divulgazione. Come pittore ha esposto alla Biennale di Venezia del 1986. Si è occupato di cromatologia (Capire e usare i colori, 2019) e ha inventato il colorimetro manuale. Ha scritto un romanzo: Orkney (2019). Fra i libri più recenti ricordiamo: Bosch. Tavole di diverse bizzarrie (2016) e Raffaello. Nella pittura un dio mortale (2020), entrambe editi da Giunti. È Cavaliere della Repubblica Italiana per meriti artistici e scientifici.
