La geniale figura del Maestro di Urbino magistralmente ricostruita da Marco Bussagli. Nel Quinto Centenario della morte di Raffaello Sanzio, che per un caso sfortunato ha coinciso con il periodo della pandemia da coronavirus, tanto da aver costretto moltissimi a rinunciare alla visione delle Mostre che gli sono state dedicate, ha stimolato il noto e stimatissimo Storico dell’Arte Marco Bussagli ad approfondire la sua figura nell’ampio volume intitolato RAFFAELLO. Nella pittura un dio mortale (Giunti Editore 2020).
Un libro di 320 pagine che unisce all’assoluto rigore scientifico una scrittura chiara e attraente e, arricchito da un ottimo apparato illustrativo a colori, è un piacere per gli occhi e per la mente. Già l’ossimoro del sottotitolo, dio mortale, ci spinge a riflettere sulla morte di Raffaello, che lo colse nel 1520 a soli 37 anni, eppure nel suo breve arco di vita egli era riuscito a ottenere una fama enorme grazie alle sue straordinarie doti artistiche e umane e, se è vero che … muor giovane colui che al cielo è caro … come già scriveva Menandro, gli antichi avrebbero potuto vedere nella sua morte una vera apoteosi, l’immortalità riservata alle persone eccezionali. Quella morte prematura, del resto, gli avrebbe evitato la decadenza fisica e soprattutto quel sacco di Roma, che sarebbe stato compiuto dai Lanzichenecchi sette anni dopo la sua scomparsa, gettando la città e il pontefice Clemente VII, Giulio de’ Medici, in una terribile desolazione. Sappiamo tutti che Raffaello fu un abilissimo Pittore e Architetto. La composizione ariosa delle sue pitture, l’armonia leggendaria delle proporzioni e del colore hanno reso popolarissime le sue creazioni: dalle celeberrime Madonne ai ritratti, fino ai capolavori assoluti degli affreschi nelle Stanze Vaticane.
Ma quanto sappiamo veramente della sua vita, dei suoi amori, dei suoi rapporti con i grandi protagonisti del suo tempo? In questo volume viene analizzata tutta la sua vita e vengono svelati tanti di quei particolari, che ci aiutano a capire la grandezza dell’Artista e la sua modernità, le ampie vedute culturali e la nascita del suo mito che si è riverberato fino alla contemporaneità.
… Bello, ricco e famoso, forte di un successo personale a tutto campo, Raffaello fu il prototipo dell’Artista moderno afferma nell’introduzione Bussagli, paragonando l’affascinante divo del Rinascimento alle superstar di questo secolo o di quello appena trascorso, evidenziandone le capacità imprenditoriali e cogliendo le differenze rispetto agli altri giganti della sua epoca, come fa nel confronto con Michelangelo Buonarroti:
… La solarità di un successo che arrise all’Artista fin da giovane e la felice condizione di un aspetto di riconosciuta avvenenza sono peculiarità che non possiamo ritrovare, per esempio, in Michelangelo, la cui fisicità condizionò la vita del grande Artista sfociando in un tormento interiore che non trova riscontro nell’esistenza di Raffaello … Se Michelangelo si arrovellava su profondi temi teologici, a lui perfettamente noti, offrendo straordinarie soluzioni visive in grado di mantenere la stessa profondità di pensiero tradotta in immagini dal medesimo spessore speculativo, Raffaello era capace di ammantare il pensiero teologico della cultura ufficiale di un’apparenza visiva sfavillante e solare che finiva per essere il manifesto di un’epoca
… il suo successo, al di là della genialità, è dovuto in gran parte proprio all’educazione ricevuta in famiglia sostiene Bussagli … tutto quel che sarà Raffaello: Architetto, Imprenditore, Pittore, Urbanista e perfino Poeta nasce dall’esempio paterno. Oggi, infatti, procediamo con parametri diversi, ma allora i dieci anni (dal 1483, anno della nascita del futuro Maestro, al 1494, data della morte di Giovanni Santi) che videro lo sviluppo di un intenso rapporto padre/figlio furono fondamentali per la personalità dell’Artista. Anche perché, allora, si entrava a bottega a sette anni; ma nel caso di Raffaello, la bottega era casa sua e tutto il quotidiano ruotava intorno all’impresa artistica di famiglia …
Dopo la biografia dell’Artista, Bussagli affronta alcuni argomenti, scelti tra i principali temi che hanno attraversato tutta la sua carriera … intrecciandosi tanto con gli interessi culturali dell’epoca quanto con quelli della sua complessa personalità. Ognuno di questi argomenti meriterebbe una monografia … sostiene l’Autore … ma per motivi di spazio sono state privilegiate le componenti connesse alla formazione culturale di Raffaello, piuttosto che i temi iconografici già inseriti nell’intreccio della vita dell’Artista. Anche al tema del ritratto è stato dato minore risalto perché l’autore, in questo stesso 2020, ha avuto modo di pubblicare un fascicolo monografico dedicato all’argomento per la rivista Art e Dossier, cui rimanda per i dovuti approfondimenti. Bussagli si è concentrato, pertanto, su una seria riflessione sull’antico che emerge prepotentemente in quell’epoca rinascimentale, di cui il Pittore urbinate è uno dei principali esponenti.

MARCO BUSSAGLI NOTE ESSENZIALI 
Marco Bussagli nasce a Roma il 9 Dicembre del 1957.
Laureato in Storia dell’Arte, è Professore di prima fascia presso l’Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma dove insegna Anatomia Artistica.
È stato Professore a contratto di Storia dell’Arte Contemporanea alla Facoltà d’Architettura dell’Università La Sapienza di Roma.
Ha vinto una Borsa di Studio per l’Accademia di San Luca e la British Library.
Borsista presso il Warburg and Courtauld Institute di Londra nel 1989, ha insegnato presso l’Università di Macerata dove ha tenuto Corsi d’Iconografia degli strumenti musicali.
Ha insegnato Iconologia per il corso di specializzazione in Storia dell’Arte Medievale e Moderna presso l’Università L.U.M.S.A. di Palermo.
Presso la L.U.M.S.A. di Roma, ha tenuto Corsi di Storia dell’Arte Medievale per il Master in Storia dell’Arte Medievale e Moderna.
Ha collaborato dal 1985 al 2009 con l’Istituto dell’Enciclopedia Italiana.
È stato Direttore scientifico de I Grandi Temi della Pittura in 60 volumi per la Casa Editrice De Agostini.
Nel 2000, con Mario D’Onofrio ha curato la Mostra Le ali di Dio, per il Castello Svevo di Bari e per Mont-Saint Michele.
Nel 2008 è stato Curatore, insieme a Claudio Strinati, della Mostra Il ‘400 a Roma, esposta nelle Sale del Museo del Corso.
Nel 2011, ha curato, con Maria Grazia Bernardini, la Mostra Il Rinascimento a Roma nel segno di Michelangelo e Raffaello, sempre per il Museo della Fondazione Roma.
Per la Fondazione, ha poi curato nel 2015 Barocco a Roma. La meraviglia delle arti.
Ha curato nel 2014 a Palazzo Magnani di Reggio Emilia, la Mostra dedicata a Enigma Escher. Paradossi grafici fra arte e geometria, insieme a Piergiorgio Odifreddi.
Successivamente, nelle Sale del Chiostro del Bramante a Roma, in accordo con la Escher Foundation, ha curato un’altra Mostra dedicata ad Escher che ha affrontato tutti i temi della poetica del grande incisore olandese.
Una versione ampliata dell’Esposizione è stata la più visitata del 2016 al Palazzo Reale di Milano.
Ha curato le più importanti Mostre di Escher in Italia fino al 2018.
Ha collaborato con Il Giornale e a Bell’Italia, scrive per Avvenire, Art e Dossier e Il Giornale dell’arte.
Ha realizzato alcuni dei Cd’Art di La Repubblica, con GiuntiMultimedia.
Nel 1995 e nel ’96 è stato consulente per la RAI a Videosapere.
Ha collaborato con SAT2000.
Ha lavorato per Sky-Art International.
Ha collaborato per oltre quindici anni con l’Enciclopedia Italiana Treccani quale Autore e Redattore.
Ha al suo attivo oltre duecento pubblicazioni tra libri, testi scientifici, voci enciclopediche e articoli di alta divulgazione.
Ha scritto, con la presentazione di Antonio Paolucci, una Guida ai Musei Vaticani, Firenze 2011.
I suoi libri sono tradotti in Inglese, Francese, Tedesco, Spagnolo, Russo, Polacco, Rumeno, Giapponese e Coreano.
Nel 2016 pubblica Bosch. Tavole di diverse bizzarrie (Giunti) per il Cinquecentenario della scomparsa del grande Pittore olandese.
Come Pittore ha esposto alla Biennale di Venezia del 1986, nonché in Mostre collettive e personali.
Alcune sue Opere sono in Musei pubblici e prestigiose Collezioni private.
È cavaliere della Repubblica Italiana per meriti artistici e scientifici.
