COMUNICATO STAMPA → Dialogo con l’Artista Irina Danilova a cura di Elena Dell’Andrea. L’idea di organizzare un café letterario sulla dicotomia tra guerra e pace nasce dall’incontro con l’artista Ucraina/Americana Irina Danilova, Inchiostro e Pietra blog and magazine ideato da Laure Keyrouz e Radica associazione da un’idea di Beatrice Monastero, che sensibili al tema del conflitto provato dal popolo libanese ci offrono questa occasione di dialogo. Parteciperà all’incontro Amal Baghdadi, architetto, da 32 anni a Brescia, che ha creato un ponte di solidarietà con la raccolta di fondi e medicine per il Libano. Aldo lo Curto, il primo ad aver aiutato in questa raccolta fondi e medicine, è medico volontario itinerante. Nella sua carriera ha toccato i cinque continenti, è stato in missione in diversi paesi ed è partito il 23 aprile 2022 per il confine con l’Ucraina per portare medicinali ai profughi rifugiati in Polonia. Ha aderito all’iniziativa 59 Steps for Peace Nazra Festival cinematografico della Palestina nato nel 2017 e rappresentato da Monica Macchi con HAJEZ di Omar Rammal (14’). Promosso dalle organizzazioni Restiamo Umani con Vik (Venezia), École Cinéma (Napoli) e Centro Italiano di Scambi Culturali-VIK (Striscia di Gaza – Palestina), “NAZRA” (in arabo “Sguardo”) è un Festival di cortometraggi che ha come obiettivo la promozione delle competenze artistiche e cinematografiche di giovani autori e autrici, palestinesi ed internazionali, che usano il linguaggio del cortometraggio per trattare temi quali la libertà, la giustizia, i diritti umani, l’autodeterminazione, nel delicato contesto israelo-palestinese. Elena Dell’Andrea: “Conosco Irina Danilova dal 2013, l’anno seguente l’ho accompagnata in giro per Venezia con il marito Hiram Levy. Ricordo che era impegnata nel suo progetto sul numero 59 ed in quel periodo stava percorrendo nelle maggiori città 59 km disegnando il n. 59 nel percorso e visualizzandolo su Google maps. Prima di partire mi chiese quale ponte di Venezia potesse avere 59 gradini. Inoltre mi scrisse un messaggio premonitore: Il ponte di Rialto era stato terminato nel 1591 una data che contiene il numero 59. Nel 2020 dopo la prima ondata pandemica mi trovavo a girare un breve video contando i 59 gradini proprio del Ponte di Rialto e ad entrare nel progetto di Irina 59 Steps Tour Up To The Top Of Rialto Bridge a supporto dell’Ucraina, durante gli opening della 59 Biennale di Venezia, che trova dialogo con il mio lavoro Venezia e i suoi Ponti, proseguito con altre città di Ponti tra cui San Pietroburgo e Pittsburgh, che fanno da sfondo a questa serata. Questo interessante dialogo tra USA, Russia e Ucraina emerge in 59 Brides di Irina, metafora sul futuro: come in un matrimonio per raggiungere la pace bisogna trovare un accordo. Questo accordo si trova costruendo Ponti e AttraversaMenti, come quelli di Rocco Sciaudone ed Elena Dell’Andrea; Trame, come gli intrecci di Adua Martina Rosarno e Amedeo Fernandes. Un anelito verso gli ideali di innocenza e libertà che vive L’infante di Alessio Scotti. STITCHING THE BORDER|CUCIRE IL CONFINE è il progetto di Elisa Vladilo curato da Werner Koroschitz e Uli Vonbank – Schedler che si è realizzato lungo il confine italo-sloveno, l’8-10-2010. “Quando abbiamo iniziato a parlare del progetto SEPARAZIONI, pensando alle linee di confine dei tre paesi coinvolti nel progetto, Austria, Italia, Slovenia, ho subito pensato che in realtà questi confini è come se non ci fossero più. Negli ultimi anni, progressivamente sono state eliminate le frontiere tra diversi paesi europei, e introdotta la moneta unica. In questo modo le linee di confine è come se avessero perso parte del loro significato e della loro funzione, poiché se in passato poteva essere più problematico oltrepassarle, adesso non lo è più, e restano semplicemente a simboleggiare il limite di un territorio, cioè una separazione tra un paese e l’altro, contenente culture, lingue, e costumi diversi tra loro. Le zone di confine, sono comunque sempre un’area di sfumatura, nel senso che qui si trova facilmente una commistione tra le due diverse nazionalità. Pensando a questo confine che c’è e non c’è allo stesso tempo, mi sono vista una specie di “cucitura” sulle linee di confine, a simboleggiare una ricucitura dei territori, una riunificazione più effettiva e profonda, nel rispetto delle identità, riportando la terra all’unità originaria, frazionata dagli uomini nel corso del tempo. La cucitura me la immagino fatta a punti incrociati, grandi, colorati con toni caldi, arancio e giallo; una cucitura ironica, ludica, allegra, sdrammatizzante, propiziatoria ad una felice coesistenza. I colori caldi sono sia per trasmettere appunto le qualità di gioiosità e positività, ma anche per completare e quindi dialogare con i toni di colore di solito prevalenti nella natura, cioè verde e azzurro. La dimensione dei punti è in scala col territorio, e il materiale utilizzato è nastro colorato, per sottolinearne l’intento gioioso, festoso, e leggero.” (pubblicato su press release UNDO.NET)

 

 

59 STEPS FOR PEACE curated by Elena Dell’Andrea

The idea of a literary café on the dichotomy of peace and war was conceived during a meeting with Ukrainian/American artist Irina Danilova. The Inchiostro e Pietra blog and magazine, edited by Laure Keyrouz, and the Radica association, organized by Beatrice Monastero, are both sensitive to the issue of the conflict experienced by Lebanese people, and they have offered us this opportunity for dialogue. Amal Baghadadi, an architect living in Brescia for 32 years, has created a bridge of solidarity and launched a donation campaign to collect funds to send medicines to the Lebanese Popular Aid.

Aldo lo Curto, the first person who helped in this fundraising and medicine, is a voluntary itinerant doctor. During his career he reached all five continents and was on missions in different countries and on 23 April 2022 left for the border with Ukraine to bring medicines to refugees in Poland.

The Nazra Palestine Short Film Festival born in 2017and represented by Monica Macchi joined 59 Steps for Peace with HAJEZ by Omar Rammal (14’). It is promoted by organization Restiamo Umani con Vik (Venice), École Cinéma (Naples) e Centro Italiano di Scambi Culturali-VIK (Gaza Strip – Palestine). The NAZRA PALESTINE SHORT FILM FESTIVAL (Nazra means Look) is an annual, travelling and multicultural festival on freedom, human rights and justice, with a special focus on the contemporary reality in Palestine. It also aims to be an opportunity, for authors with great artistic skills but lacking sufficient financial resources, to express and present their ideas and reflections through the fast, young and clever’s short movies language.

Elena Dell’Andrea: “I met Irina Danilova in 2013 and the following year we strolled around Venice with her and her husband, Hiram Levy. I recall her being immersed in her Project 59 at the time, and she was walking 5.9 kilometres around cities, writing number 59 on Google maps. Before she left, she inquired as to whether Venice had a 59-step bridge. Then she sent me a predictive message: the Rialto Bridge was built in 1591 (including number 59). After discovering the only way up with exactly 59 steps (out of 5 other options on Rialto Bridge and all other Venice bridges) between the pandemic waves in 2020, I created a short video counting 59 steps to the top of the Rialto Bridge, which became the 59 Steps Tour Up To The Top Of Rialto Bridge to Support Ukraine this year, during the opening of the 59th Venice Biennale. Irina’s Rialto Bridge project is in dialogue with my artworks about Venice and its Bridges, continued with other cities of bridges as Saint Petersburg and Pittsburgh that are the background of this evening. This interesting dialog between USA, Russia and Ukraine emerges in Irina’s 59 Brides, metaphor on the future: as in a marriage, in order to achieve peace, an agreement must be found. This agreement is found building Bridges and Mind- Crossings as in the works by Rocco Sciaudone and Elena Dell’Andrea; Wefts, as weaving by Adua Martina Rosarno and Amedeo Fernandes; a yearning for ideals of innocence and freedom as in The  Infant by Alessio Scotti.

STITCHING THE BORDER|CUCIRE IL CONFINE is a project of Elisa Vladilo curated by Werner Koroschitz e Uli Vonbank – Schedler, realised along the Italian-Slovenian border, on 10-8-2010. Elisa Vladilo: “When we started to speak about the project SEPARATIONS, thinking about the borders of three countries involving Austria, Italy and  Slovenia, I immediately thought that, in reality, these borders are as if there were no more. During these years the frontiers in Europe have been eliminated and  a single currency introduced. In this way borders lost part of their meaning and function. In fact in the past it was trouble to trespass them, now it isn’t. They only symbolised the limits of a territory, a separation of countries with culture, languages and different traditions.

The border areas, however, are always an area of shade, in the sense that here you can easily find a mix between two different nationalities. Thinking about this border that exists and does not exist at the same time, I saw a kind of “seam” on the border lines, that symbolises a mending of territories, a more effective and profound reunification, in the identities, bringing the earth, wich has been divided by men over time,  back to its original unity. I imagine the seam made in cross stitches, large, colored with warm tones, orange and yellow; an ironic, playful, cheerful, de-dramatizing seam, leading to a happy coexistence. The warm colours are both to convey precisely the qualities of joyfulness and positivity, but also to complete and therefore dialogue with the colour tones usually prevalent in nature, green and blue.
