ANGELO ALIGIA Panem Ipogeo Materasum Recinto XX Matera

COMUNICATO STAMPA → A partire da Sabato 13 Aprile, visitabile fino al 14 Settembre 2019, gli straordinari ambienti dell’Ipogeo Materasum, nel capoluogo lucano, faranno da cornice alla Mostra di Angelo Aligia, Panem. L’Evento espositivo, che mutua il titolo dalla video installazione site specific sul tema del più sacro degli alimenti, presenta oltre venticinque Opere, tra quadri, installazioni e video, realizzate dal Maestro calabrese tra il 2005 e oggi. Curata da Andrea Romoli Barberini, la Mostra ripercorre alcune delle tappe salienti dell’indagine di Angelo Aligia, Artista che da sempre ha connotato il proprio lavoro di valori antropologici e identitari che rinviano alle Culture rurali del Mezzogiorno, segnatamente quelle della propria terra d’origine, dagli esiti riconducibili nell’alveo di un recupero del primario calato in una dimensione inedita, come sospesa, tra memoria e nostalgia. Oltre alla videoinstallazione Panem, che celebra miti, riti, antiche divinità, simboli e valori di un tempo, senza rinunciare a fugaci riferimenti alla realtà, ben più prosaica, del presente, le sale di Materasum, scavate nella pietra in epoche diverse, accolgono anche le installazioni Mare Nostrum, incentrata sulla contraddittoria molteplicità di significati che il Mediterraneo ha assunto nel corso dei secoli, In attesa del vento, presentata alla 54° Biennale di Venezia, Padiglione Italia, e al Vittoriano di Roma, e I formicai, lavoro recente composto di elementi fittili, mai esposto prima, che gioca sull’analogia dell’organizzazione sociale di insetti ed esseri umani ma anche sul contrasto tra interno ed esterno di queste stupefacenti, e talvolta monumentali, strutture. Completa l’articolato percorso una selezione di quadri di diversi formati realizzati con le terre della Riviera dei Cedri e connotati da segni arcaici che rinviano a quelli, naturali, che si ritrovano sulle alture rocciose della stessa zona. Dal testo in catalogo Andrea Romoli Barberini scrive … Il percorso artistico di Angelo Aligia si basa su una riflessione antropologica che tende al recupero e alla rielaborazione di materiali, utensili, costumi e tradizioni che hanno assunto nel tempo il connotato culturale e identitario di particolari luoghi. Nato e residente in Calabria,  Aligia ha dapprima adottato il legno di olivo, realizzando una serie di Sculture in cui la definizione formale scaturisce da interventi molto misurati che tendono ad esaltare le seduzioni plastiche espresse dalla natura, rimanendo quindi distante da tentazioni di rappresentazione mimetica e anzi, prediligendo esiti d’ambito organico.  Nel solco del recupero del primario, Aligia ha poi avviato una prolungata sperimentazione con la pietra calcarea calabrese e, attraverso la rielaborazione  dell’antica tecnica dei muri a secco, ha realizzato una serie di Opere di impatto monumentale e impianto minimalista. Sfere, cubi, tavoli e sedie gigantesche si impongono allo sguardo come enigmatiche testimonianze di epoche passate e piene di suggestione. Evocative di remote ritualità, palesano la centralità dei concetti di tempo e luogo. Fedele ai contenuti della propria indagine artistica, Aligia ha affrontato anche la bidimensionalità, utilizzando con valenza pittorica, materiali quali terre, canne e, rielaborati in bronzo e applicati sui supporti, i frutti e gli alimenti del suo territorio quali cedri, fichi, pane. In queste Opere trovano sovente collocazione e nuova dignità, con monumentali sottolineature dimensionali, anche gli utensili di un tempo, per il lavoro in casa e nei campi. In breve, l’Opera di Angelo Aligia tende a evidenziare e salvaguardare quei particolari elementi tratti dalla natura o dalla cultura rurale. L’opera, quindi, nella ricercata semplicità delle forme che esprime, si fa testimonianza viva, unica e irripetibile, di quei valori ancestrali che l’Artista intende sottrarre all’oblio ...

MATERA rappresenta il paradigma dell’Architettura in negativo, caratterizzante l’insediamento rupestre in cui si crea una particolare stratigrafia di vuoti edificati, ipogei cui si sovrappone il costruito sub divo: il banco roccioso è allo stesso tempo la base per le strutture costruite e il bacino di approvvigionamento della materia prima per le costruzioni.   (Francesca Sogliani)                                                                                                       

LA CITTÀ SCAVATA NELLA ROCCIA Matera, Capitale Europea della Cultura 2019, proiettata verso il futuro, è uno scrigno che custodisce molti tesori del passato. Il fascino della Città dei Sassi è rappresentato dalla sua storia millenaria e dalle caratteristiche assai peculiari della città scavata nella roccia. Si tratta del particolare ambiente carsico che ha portato alla naturale formazione di valloni e gravine, dai quali nel corso della Storia si è sviluppato il ben noto insediamento rupestre. L’Ipogeo Materasum è un mirabile esempio di ambiente sotterraneo scavato nella roccia tufacea portato alla luce grazie ad un attento restauro conservativo.

UN MONDO SOTTERRANEO Accanto alle tante meraviglie già note della Città (le Chiese rupestri, l’insediamento nei Sassi, le Cisterne), un fascino particolare e diverso assume la Città ipogeica, unicum rappresentato dall’ Ipogeo Materasum, che consente di visitare una parte di quello che è stato mirabilmente definito … un palinsesto straordinario di stratificazioni insediative, che prendono avvio in età molto remota. Ambienti scavati nella roccia, antiche abitazioni con aperture per far penetrare luce ed aria, all’interno delle quali possiamo immaginare lo svolgersi della vita quotidiana della civiltà degli ipogei. Un viaggio affascinante nello spazio e nel tempo che vi porterà nel ventre di Matera una delle città più antiche del mondo.

ANGELO ALIGIA Cenni biografici

ANGELO ALIGIA è nato a Maierà CS nel 1959. Giovanissimo, dotato di una spiccata inclinazione per il disegno, si dedica alla Scultura, in cui trasferisce l’esigenza di un rapporto con un principio originale e antropologico, come condizione autentica vitale dell’essere umano oltre le differenze individuali e storiche. Le sue Sculture precedenti gli anni Ottanta, riconducibili ad alcune esperienze dell’Avanguardia storica, si sono sviluppate nel tempo in composizioni più libere e sperimentali. L’area della sua ricerca si colloca sin dagli esordi nell’ambito poetico del recupero del primario cui aggiunge una sensibilità architettonica che lo ha portato a indagare nel mondo delle forme geometriche solide regolari. Nei suoi lavori più recenti, la sua vena di rinnovato lirismo lo ha indotto a sperimentare nel rilievo e nella pura bidimensionalità l’innato senso della natura che ne connota gli interessi poetici. Ha preso parte a numerose Mostre personali e collettive in Spazi pubblici e Gallerie private, in Italia e all’Estero, realizzando più Sculture per centri urbani. Tra queste si segnalano le personali : Il canto delle pietre silenziose, Sant’ Ivo alla Sapienza, Roma, 2006, In attesa del vento Complesso Monumentale del Vittoriano, Roma, 2008, Terra, vento, pietra Galleria Nazionale di Cosenza, Palazzo Arnone, Cosenza 2010. Ha preso parte alla 54° Biennale d’Arte di Venezia, Padiglione Italia, Villa Genovese Zerbi  RC. Vive e opera a Diamante  CS.
