NINO LA BARBERA Amarevolare Mostra e Concerto Lirico Casa dell’Aviatore
COMUNICATO STAMPA → Si inaugura a Roma, curata da Francesco Ruggiero, Mercoledì 14 Febbraio 2018 alle ore 18:30 la Mostra personale del Maestro Nino La Barbera titolata Amarevolare allestita nelle Sale espositive della Casa dell’Aviatore in Viale dell’Università, 20. L’Inaugurazione prosegue con il Concerto di Musiche Liriche eseguite dalla Cantante lirica Salvina Maesano Mezzosoprano accompagnata al pianoforte da Barbara Cattabiani con la partecipazione di Silvia Vicari al violino. Conclude la serata per San Valentino la Cena di Gala. Per l’occasione verranno presentati in esclusiva nella Sfilata di Abiti di Collezione, opere assolutamente uniche realizzate con interventi pittorici eseguiti da Nino La Barbera e indossate per l’evento dalla Cantante Lirica Salvina Maesano e dal Maestro Barbara Cattabiani. La Mostra sarà vi fino al 25 Febbraio 2018. Nato a Mazara del Vallo nel 1945, Nino La Barbera ha studiato negli Istituti d’Arte di Messina e di Palermo. Vive e lavora a Roma dal 1962. Pluripremiato, nel 2001 ha ricevuto il Premio UNESCO per l’attività artistica, con numerose personali all’attivo. Suoi dipinti sono presenti in collezioni private e Musei di tutto il mondo. La Mostra prevede la realizzazione del Catalogo con testi di presentazione di Claudio Strinati, Aldo Gerbino, Francesco Gallo Mazzeo e Manfredo Lauro Grotto. La pittura di La Barbera, scrive Claudio Strinati, ha attraversato fasi diverse opportunamente documentate da questa mostra, accentuando sempre più un elemento preciso, quello della materia che si trasforma dentro lo spazio dell’opera, come ubbidendo a un pensiero implicitamente depositatovi dentro, rintracciato dall’Artista e continuamente mutante. È una suggestione profonda che deriva da un’idea particolarissima della materia definibile, in qualche modo minimale, anche se nulla ha a che fare, tale concezione, con l’idea del minimalismo sviluppatosi negli ultimi vent’anni presso altri maestri. La Barbera stesso definisce questa sua attitudine di Artista rispetto alla materia, come facoltà di cogliere il contemplabile, ciò che, in altri termini, può essere fissato nello spazio della rappresentazione ma pur sempre in una forma che si modifica davanti ai nostri occhi. È come osservare le particelle infinitesimali della materia, come scrutare la cellula (lo ha detto, con molto acume e sensibilità, Pier Augusto Brecciascrive una bella lettera all’amico La Barbera, pubblicata di recente) o l’atomo. È questo infinitesimale a generare le fluttuazioni della materia che l’Artista ricostruisce sulla tela. È c’è, in tutto questo, quasi un paradosso apparente, superato di fatto nel concreto del suo operare, perché La Barbera sa bene che è impossibile, entro certi limiti, rappresentare esaurientemente ciò che continuamente muta e che malgrado ciò si tenta di fissare. Come le particelle atomiche, appunto, che per poter essere studiate vanno illuminate e quindi già ci appaiono per come non sono quando effettivamente le vediamo. Ma il Maestro cerca proprio di rintracciare tali mutevoli fluttuazioni e si espone, così, al rischio di inseguire una sorta di esasperazione della materia. Rischio, certamente, ma La Barbera è in grado di dominarlo, quasi si trattasse di una metaforica fissione nucleare, per cui ogni elemento che compone il quadro incontrandosi con un altro sulla superficie stessa del quadro, si modifica, scaturendone nuove e, in qualche modo, consequenziali, forme. Insomma La Barbera costruisce il quadro facendo sprigionare immagini da quelle iniziali, quasi il Maestro avesse in mente un concetto peculiare di destino della materia, un destino non coerente ed omogeneo ma anzi, martoriato da mancanze, assenze, riprese inaspettate, vuoti e addensamenti che pure tutti insieme, ricompongono un insieme figurativamente rigoroso e chiaramente percepibile, in una remota eco di certe esperienze cruciali del nostro tempo, quale quella di Max Ernst, intimamente rivissute e rigenerate in una continua ricerca sullo spazio pittorico. Ma, veramente, non si può parlare, nel caso di La Barbera di precise filiazioni storiche. Da un lato, infatti, siamo alla presenza di un’Artista colto, che molto ha visto e molto ha riflettuto, manifestando piena consapevolezza del suo fare. Dall’altro dobbiamo constatare come nel suo caso il forte peso del passato, della classicità, delle avanguardie, delle ricerche scientifiche, generino poi, una forma artistica peculiare che è tutta tratta dall’interno del proprio immaginario e non denota flussi circoscrivibili in maniera esplicita, proprio perché la poetica di La Barbera è una poetica che ubbidisce solo alla logica dell’opera in sé e non guarda al di fuori. Ne nasce, così, un vero e proprio progetto che è tanto più è perfetto quanto più permette all’Artista di verificare se stesso strada facendo. La Barbera parte, quindi, da una idea e, fortunosamente, questa idea si modifica in corso d’opera fino ad assumere la forma definitiva del quadro compiuto, anche se, nel suo caso, il criterio della compiutezza è molto particolare perché l’Artista torna sulla forma realizzata per estrarne sempre nuove suggestioni latenti in ciò che ha fatto precedentemente. Emblematica è, allora, la serie di dipinti che figurano in questa Mostra, parte dei quali sono incentrati su una riformulazione fantastica dei Miti Greci, ricostruiti e smontati secondo un’ottica combinatoria ed evocativa che va seguita come un racconto di immagini dove si intersecano, talvolta freneticamente, episodi diversi. E l’approdo di questo racconto è, in definitiva il momento della rivelazione di tutta la potenzialità latente nella memoria stessa mentre viene elaborata, avanzando l’opera dell’Artista verso una intima organicità sempre più complessa. Occorre però notare come, in questo racconto, alcuni elementi costitutivi viaggino nello spazio in una catena incessante di assonanze ed echi interni, mente altri restano fissi e definiti con altrettanta implacabile fermezza e evidenza. Già tale atteggiamento risultò evidente in certi temi e cicli che hanno marcato, di tempo in tempo, la carriera del Maestro, come le ricerche sulla figura dell’Angelo e sull’argomento del Volo, dove verrebbe da pensare che la Pittura giunga il punto limite di trovare il suo riferimento più nelle cose che non si conoscono che in quelle immediatamente e logicamente percepibili. È come un viaggio verso l’ignoto dell’Arte in se e questo nucleo di ignoto risiede proprio nella continua modificazione del rappresentato, tanto che anche La Barbera potrebbe ripetere, con gli antichi Maestri, che in definitiva, nell’Arte, non c’è altro che la forma realizzata. Nel quadro di Ulisse e Nausica l’immagine dell’occhio nasce in un certo modo e poi si modifica fino a sprofondare nella impossibilità della percezione: nel quadro di Didone ed Enea, la figura di Didone si triplica assumendo forme e valenze diverse riecheggianti le diverse formulazioni del mito. Nella Nascita di Venere la figura sembra comporsi e ricomporsi in un flusso ininterrotto di attraversamenti nello spazio. Nel Ratto di Proserpina è interessante la forma della precarietà che è attribuita all’immagine divina. Nell’ultimo volo di Icaro compare ancora, e con assoluta pregnanza, il simbolo dell’occhio, amatissimo dall’Artista, emblema della sua ansia di investigazione e continuo superamento. In Apollo e Dafne la forma di una sorta di ancestrale feto, quasi un alieno, nasce in embrione dall’evento, spiazzando l’osservatore. Ma costante è nelle opere il moltiplicarsi degli echi e delle risonanze per costruire con testi dilatanti e inquieti. Appropriatissimo in tal senso, mi sembra, un commento di Luigi Lombardi Vallauri che, a proposito della Mostra Le mirabilia Urbis Romae del 1994 a Palazzo Ruspoli in Roma, annotava: … La Barbera mi sembra non riducibile … La pittura è vissuta come un laboratorio per processi di autotrasformazione, di scoperta morale e personale. L’Artista stesso completa implicitamente tale affermazione quando dichiara: … La forma che vuole liberarsi ci suggerisce il metodo. Questa è l’idea nell’idea. E, sempre nello stesso contesto il Maestro aveva chiaramente spiegato: … io percepisco in maniera eccessiva il sincretismo tra il vecchio e il nuovo richiesto dall’atto stesso del dipingere e del quale dovrei essere il custode e nello stesso tempo manipolatore rivoluzionario. Da qui il lavoro di La Barbera prende, letteralmente, il volo, inteso sia come metafora generale del suo fare, sia come argomento esplicito di un’ampia serie di sue opere. Ed e’ giusto che sia così e questo ci è dimostrato dalla Mostra attuale che raccoglie parecchi anni di lavoro riconnettendo i diversi argomenti verso una matrice fortemente unitaria. La parabola di La Barbera è, così, in continua evoluzione ma l’esame complessivo di quanto è visibile adesso, consente di mettere in luce alcune costanti del suo operare che lo collocano in una posizione singolare, mista di visionarietà e di realismo, di chiara coscienza della propria poetica, ma anche di forte tensione verso il superamento di se stesso, tutta insieme, anche rispetto a fasi diverse, queste opere sono la testimonianza di una carriera che ha alla base l’ansia di una particolare libertà espressiva, quella che scaturisce da una adesione profonda e coinvolta con il materiale con cui si ha a che fare. La Barbera ha un sentimento profondo per la Pittura. Questa è per lui il luogo, certamente, dell’ispirazione, ma anche della riflessione del ricordo, della libertà. Una sua costante rimane il tema del volo, prima chiaramente rappresentato come argomento dominante del suo lavoro, poi perennemente latente in tutto il suo immaginario. Mi sembra giusto concludere con le sue stesse parole che dimostrano proprio questa consapevolezza: … forse oggi la nuova forma che sta cercando di nascere come se fosse una creatura suggerisce anche la nuova maniera, quella più adatta per non essere soffocata e per essere finalmente liberata. Esaminando le cose più recenti, presenti in questa Mostra, ci sembra di poter dire che una nuova significativa tappa è arrivata in questa direzione. Aldo Gerbino sottolinea che è dalle acque dove il mondo organico, in tutta la sua complessità, va prendendo corpo, ora nella forma di oggetti piumati, ora nella stria lentigginosa d’un frastagliato orizzonte; o, ancora, si comprime nella pulsatile dimensione d’una luce, un tramonto, un’assorta, meditata analisi sulla propria e altrui corporeità. Sembra, in quest’apparente caos botanico e animale di Nino La Barbera, che si condensino quegli ingredienti da tanto tempo agitati nella molteplicità espressiva del suo registro figurativo. Verso quale meta, ci chiediamo, sono diretti e da quale tensione essi prendano origine, certo non possiamo sapere. Piuttosto intuiamo come da tale embrionale opulenza e persistenza in morfologie ben differenziate possa dedursi molto della poetica di Nino per quell’essere sottesa ad un totale coinvolgimento biologico collocato nelle varie categorie del vissuto, e, allo stesso tempo, nell’ordito geologico del pianeta. Tali sue immagini si contemplano per azzurrine trasparenze, ampiamente definite nel loro ruolo fisico: donne dai capelli fluenti, mosse quali onde frante sulle sponde d’una mitologia salmastra e poetica e in cui la Sicilia, lo stampo perenne e pervadente della sua grecità, si staglia in una non peregrina mappa luminosa, costantemente abbagliata, – almeno così possiamo rilevare dal lunghissimo percorso creativo di La Barbera (classe 1945), – da un’intensità meridiana, focalizzata in fatti e storie e accadimenti pur minimi calati per loro naturale propensione, in un bagno mediterraneo caratterizzato dalla proficua materia creativa secreta dall’artista siciliano. Assorto in una rimodulazione sempre costante quasi in continua ascesa e rivisitazione del suo punto di vista sulla nuova figurazione, e sotto l’azione d’una perennità del moto che imbriglia uomini e cose, esercita una sorta di propulsione rigenerativa rivolta al recupero panteistico della platonica anima mundi, del governo umano, della necessità e possibilità di scorporare il mondo da una gravissima fase erosiva cui tutti siamo corresponsabili. Tale neo-figurazione, immersa nella classicità, si attesta senza mai dimenticare le lezioni delle avanguardie storiche: dagli esiti postfuturisti a quelli del cubismo le quali ancora esercitano un’azione ri-vitalizzante di quel meccanismo visivo capace di interpretare la realtà. Si tratta, per La Barbera, d’una realtà prossima al collasso e, contemporaneamente, speranzosa d’un gesto aperto alla metamorfosi ideale del proprio stare infisso nella quotidiana esistenza, del consegnare valore al proprio essere per una qualità migliore delle idee, ed evitare ogni scollamento o il soccombere alla iper-tecnocrazia incline a destrutturare ogni umana possibilità volta al mantenimento degli affetti sociali e di quella unicità dell’individuo, della ‘persona’ pronta a interagire con ogni essere vivente. In tale caos fertile del suo registro pittorico, come ama definirlo l’artista, v’è una pertinenza non soltanto estetica, ma soprattutto ideologica; d’una ideologia oggi trasformatasi in urgenza sociale, in propositiva spinta alla salvaguardia del nostro ecosistema. Tale idealità viene qui espressa attraverso la turgescente campionatura di segni che si affastellano, si sdoppiano, si dicotomizzano in strutture fogliacee, in frammenti organici, in guizzi di pinne, in vibranti voli. Altre volte si dilatano a formare strutture navicolari, ampolle e vescicole che nascondono, nel loro più intimo substrato, una cellularità vivace e spesso sofferente, una dinamica del moto organizzata in grido, in attenzione fonosimbolica concretata, non soltanto in gioioso tripudio di vita, in fertilità agognata nella quale immergersi, ma anche in denuncia di quelle forme vitali continuamente soffocate dall’utopia del governo tecnico, dalla ridondante supremazia di metodologie atte a costruire moduli che servano da calco e poi da sostituzione alle esperienze umane. In forme dell’Arte, turbolenza emotiva e armoniche discontinuità nel caos fertile, Manfredo Lauro Grotto, Psicoterapeuta Membro associato dell’Istituto Italiano di Psicoanalisi di Gruppo, afferma che dipingere, come esporsi al rischio di un’esperienza analitica, richiede la disponibilità a perdere e rinunciare a quanto faticosamente realizzato e amato, per far posto al nuovo e alle armoniche discontinuità. Questa disciplina, al pari dell’atto di fede di bioniana memoria, nei momenti di maggiore turbolenza emotiva, ci impone l’oblio della memoria e del desiderio, per affidarsi alle risonanze del caos da cui emergeranno i germi di una futura, quanto mai incerta, armonia e conoscenza. Scrivere un lavoro sull’Arte, per uno psicoanalista di gruppo impegnato quotidianamente nella Clinica, può suonare come un vezzo, un tentativo di evasione, magari cercando di ispirarsi ai lavori di illustri predecessori tra cui Sigmund Freud e Carl Gustav Jung. In realtà la necessità di cimentarsi in questo campo è nata dalle conversazioni amichevoli col Maestro La Barbera, dalle quali sono emerse innumerevoli e profonde analogie tra il modo del Maestro di far nascere un quadro e seguirlo nel suo sviluppo e non solo il processo terapeutico, ma anche i processi sottostanti il fenomeno della coscienza. Analogie raccolte dal titolo del lavoro che qui presentiamo, che le contiene in una forma condensata. Per forme dell’Arte, intendiamo riferirci almeno a due fenomeni possibili: il primo riguarda il depositarsi in maniera implicita nella mente e nelle mani del Maestro dell’esperienza artistica e fattuale degli artisti e dei movimenti cui sono appartenuti (a volte come fondatori, a volte come esponenti più o meno rivoluzionari) nella storia dell’Arte, che lo hanno preceduto. Sappiamo dagli studi di Gerald M. Edelman e Giulio Tononi (Un universo di coscienza) quanto questo accumulo di esperienza nelle pieghe della memoria, sia utile nell’indirizzarci nelle innumerevoli situazioni complesse e ambigue che occorrono nelle nostre vite, ma sia anche condizione necessaria ma non sufficiente per l’atto creativo, nella misura in cui quest’ultimo non cade nel vuoto ma emerge come continuità o rottura proprio dal riferimento continuo e più o meno consapevole al quadro silente di quanto abbiamo fatto noi stessi e gli altri. Questo primo significato del termine forme dell’Arte, non può essere che comune allo psicoanalista o allo psicoterapeuta, sia come ingombrante fardello da dimenticare nel momento del genuino contatto col paziente, in cui l’analista opera come una sonda della barriera di contatto fra il conscio e l’inconscio, sia come cornice di riferimento nel momento di trasferire agli altri operatori della comunità scientifica, le acquisizioni teoriche astratte dalla propria esperienza. La seconda accezione che diamo alla prima formulazione del nostro titolo, riguarda un argomento più tecnico: la parola forme, rimanda sicuramente alla configurazione che un oggetto qualsiasi può assumere in sé stesso: ciò che appare nel campo della percezione, la forma in cui qualcosa ci si presenta; ma soprattutto la configurazione relazionale con cui un oggetto si manifesta come elemento di un insieme più ampio. Prendendo a prestito dalla biologia molecolare di Gerald Edelman (Darwinismo neurale), il nostro focus attento, la nostra unità minima di riferimento, non è la singola cellula isolata dal contesto con cui interagisce, ma la relazione tra la cellula stessa e la matrice extracellulare o sostrato in cui è inserita, relazione mediata in questo caso specifico, da proteine di membrana dette rispettivamente molecole di adesione al sostrato e molecole di adesione cellulare. Questa considerazione, ci porta a compiere un salto logico, epistemologico e di complessità, nella misura in cui ci stiamo occupando della relazione tra le parti di un sistema e del sistema nella sua globalità. E questo salto ci introduce nell’universo della semiotica (Umberto Eco, Trattato di semiotica) e della capacità di costruire simboli e codici dotati di una grammatica posizionale e reciproca (diacronica e/o sincronica), così tipica degli esseri umani e di molte altre specie neoteniche (anche se non in forme così complesse come nell’uomo). Di notevole importanza, il fatto che questo salto di complessità si traduce in un cambiamento della tessitura della matrice di cui i nostri oggetti sono fatti: laddove i codici semiotici sono costituiti da entità discrete che si articolano tra loro secondo le regole di una grammatica posizionale, non sempre la realtà microfisica della realtà è così discreta, ordinata e cablata punto a punto: per esempio lo schema delle connessioni sinaptiche dei neuroni del nostro sistema nervoso, risulta da un insieme intricatissimo e fortemente sovrapposto di terminali, che più che far pensare ad una struttura ordinata, rimanda all’immagine di una struttura caotica e notevolmente sovrapposta. La percezione di entità semiotiche discrete in reciproca interazione emerge come proprietà relazionale da questo sostrato complesso e dinamicamente caotico. Il significato (emotivo e cognitivo) più o meno profondo degli eventi percettivi, emerge dall’interazione tra noi stessi in qualità di soggetti percipienti e questa articolazione reciproca e posizionale delle parti di cui sono costituiti gli oggetti, che risulta una qualità fondamentale di quel costrutto che siamo soliti definire organizzazione o struttura. Godere di un quadro è in qualche modo, coglierne la sua organizzazione o struttura; e molto altro. Relazionarsi clinicamente a una persona o a un gruppo, è in qualche modo, coglierne la sua organizzazione o struttura; e molto altro. Tralascio in questa sede, per motivi di spazio, la rilevante questione dell’osservatore partecipante ed empatico. In ogni caso, osservando il Maestro La Barbera realizzare un quadro, siamo colpiti dalla naturalezza con cui questa struttura emerga in maniera inattesa e sorprendente dalla sua mente e dalle sue mani; … o da qualcosa che man mano si va componendo nel quadro e sembra suggerire a Nino quale strada intraprendere per la prossima pennellata? Quest’ultima domanda, ci introduce nella ulteriore formulazione del nostro titolo: la turbolenza emotiva e le armoniche discontinuità. Per quanto relazionandosi al Maestro mentre dipinge, non si può essere non sorpresi dalla naturalezza con cui prendono forma le sue forme, nello stesso tempo si coglie il pathos che accompagna la sintesi creativa (Gerald Edelman, Il presente ricordato) sottesa ad ogni gesto. Non sempre il quadro mentre viene dipinto si lascia rivelare e scoprire, disvelandosi alle mani del Pittore. A volte la struttura del quadro in via di composizione oppone una certa resistenza. E a questo punto il concetto di turbolenza emotiva (così tipico della psicoanalisi di gruppo e individuale di matrice bioniana) e di armonica discontinuità, da noi individuato pensando allo stile dei quadri del Maestro, non possono non venirci in soccorso. Citando Paola Fadda in Letture Bioniane, a cura del Professore Claudio Neri: … Bion sceglie il termine turbolenza psicologica …, per indicare lo stato d’animo di sofferenza e di paura che è presente in tutte le trasformazioni psicoanalitiche … Queste infatti hanno sempre – implicito in quello maturativo – un significato distruttivo che comporta una iperstimolazione di emozioni primordiali (amore, passione, angoscia, terrore) fino ad un punto in cui la personalità le sente insopportabili in maniera quasi fisica; ad esse fa seguito un brusco e violento sconvolgimento della struttura psichica in quel momento esistente (la quale tuttavia conserva – dopo tale processo – un qualche elemento invariante che la rende riconoscibile nella sua individualità) … Questa notte oscura dell’Anima è il prezzo che deve essere pagato perché possa prodursi un mutamento qualitativo nella mente dell’analizzando; ma proprio le sue caratteristiche sopra descritte (violenza, sovvertimento della struttura e invarianza), ne fanno un oggetto di resistenza, che sarà tanto più profonda quanto più intensamente dolorosa e catastrofica sarà la distruzione minacciata …. Quante notti oscure nella vita di un analista, quante in quelle dei pazienti di tutti gli analisti? Quante, nel nostro Maestro alle prese con un quadro particolarmente resistente? Momenti in cui la domanda: cosa fa sì, che gli stessi elementi si combinino in una forma armoniosa, piuttosto che in una sostanziosa rispetto al contesto? sorge spontanea. La nostra ipotesi è che la possibilità di conservare all’interno delle rotture di continuità col contesto e con la tradizione, una grammatica reciproca e posizionale che tenga conto delle “forme dell’arte” depositate nelle pieghe della memoria, di volta in volta superandole e rinnovandole o confermandole per quel che di contestualmente adattivo comportano, costituisca una parte, seppur piccola, della risposta. E come spesso ho avuto modo di osservare chiacchierando amabilmente mentre il Maestro è all’opera, sono proprio le armoniche discontinuità delle e nelle sue opere, che trasformano un istante di impasse nella soluzione più sorprendente, creativa e posizionalmente necessaria rispetto alla struttura in divenire del quadro. Origine, precisa Francesco Gallo Mazzeo, è il luogo del prima, di quando non esisteva quello che oggi esiste, in tutte le forme varie, della vita materiale e culturale che hanno percorso vorticosamente la notte e il giorno, di tempi e sono giunti al presente dei nostri giorni, ma senza avere portato in dote l’enigma risolto, che infatti rimane irrisolto, che si può riportare ad una serie di domande sul come e sul dove, visto che sul quando la risposta l’abbiamo, tredicimiliardi, cinquecento milioni di anni, anno in più anno in meno, dall’età dell’oro, all’età del ferro, dell’acciaio, della plastica, del web, come a dire da un invisibile ad un invisibile attraverso una fisica di tecnica, di poetica, di scienza. Mito è l’innesto della realtà sul reale, dell’oggettività che è inconoscibile nella sua totalità, sulla soggettività che è dato da un conosci te stesso, che rischiano di impattare in un quid, nel come potrebbe essere, se vincesse la fantasia capace di costruire, superando le geometrie euclidee, in una trasversalità perenne che combina, il visibile con l’invisibile, l’impossibile con il desiderio di possedere, padroneggiare, una ineffabilità, una leggerezza. Scienza come luogo della scoperta, dello svelamento, di domanda che ottiene risposta, ma pone altre domande, come un poema eracliteo, in cui tutto scorre e non ci si bagna due volte nella stessa acqua, ma l’acqua è eterna, limpida o sporca, pioggia, vapore, ghiaccio, con in mezzo il regno della morte che diede in tutti i modi di diventare memoria, accumulo di immagini e parole da emulsionare nel volgere di un attimo lungo come vera eternità, chiamata tempo, chiamata spazio.
